I don’t enjoy hot summer days in London like Friday* – it was 29 degrees centigrade with 70% humidity.
But I made it worse.
I was in a Brazilian Ju Jitsu class which in done in a small room with no AC or ventilation except a normal sized door which led to a corridor. Thankfully, the corridor had a door to the outside, which was left open, allowing some cool air to come in. Well, relatively cool. My class began at 7pm so the temperature had dropped slightly to 23 degrees outside, warm by London’s standards. But the 29 degrees centigrade daytime temperature had heated up the room. But the bigger cooling effect came from the drop in humidity. Inside the room, the wall of mirrors, which covered one wall, was covered in steam.
And if that wasn’t bad enough, I spent half the class with another dude who weighed 20- 30 kgs more than me, in mount position (essentially sitting on my stomach while I was lying on my back). At times, it felt like my stomach was going to come out of my nose.
It wasn’t pleasant. Yet I enjoyed the class.
I started doing BJJ last year but after a month, I injured my right shoulder. I had no choice but to stop.
So it felt good being back, even in these terrible conditions.
